Plans to store higher radioactive waste in Andrews County are moving forward.

The State Senate approved a bill on Tuesday which would allow Waste Control Specialists to import materials with higher radioactivity at their site.

The bill also encourages the export of lower-level materials to other states.

The Senate did remove a provision that only Texans living in counties adjacent to Andrews County could contest it.

That will allow folks who live nearby in Hobbs, New Mexico, to have input.

Texas Senator Kel Seliger says the move will bring in more money to the company, Andrews County and the state.
