Pilot Aborts Takeoff at Midland International Airport

Staff Report
NewsWest 9

MIDLAND - A pilot was forced to abort a takeoff at the Midland International Airport bringing things to a screeching halt on the runway on Tuesday.

Officials say the pilot did not have the latch on the canopy secured.

A canopy is the clear enclosure that goes over the cockpit.

The pilot realized what happened during takeoff and aborted the flight so that he never left the ground.

Neither the pilot nor the passenger were hurt.

The plane is a vintage world war two German Messerschmitt.

It had very little damage.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
