ODESSA - Two officers are recovering after a car thief ran them down and led police on a chase.

Delbert McNeil is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated robbery and felony evading.

McNeil is accused of stealing an Odessa College Police officer's cruiser then hitting the officer with the car.

"The confrontation was at the Medical Center Hospital ambulance bay and involved an OC officer and Ector County Hospital District officer," Amber Sweeney with Medical Center Hospital, said. "One shot was fired by the Ector County Hospital District police officer but no other injuries were reported."

In a press release from Odessa Police Department, it stated that officers spotted the stolen cruiser near Kermit Highway and North West County Road but McNeil refused to pull over.

NewsWest 9 was told McNeil led police on a chase that finally ended with him crashing into a fence on 9th Street and Pittsburgh. DPS and Texas Rangers aided Odessa Police. McNeil was arrested at the scene and the officers he allegedly assaulted are recovering.

"Both officers are listed in good condition," Sweeney said.

The investigation is continuing.
