Stanley Marsh 3 turns himself in on sexual assault charges

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Stanley Marsh 3 turned himself into the Potter County Detention Center Thursday afternoon after he was indicted by the Potter County Grand Jury.

NewsChannel 10 crews were at the detention center Thursday afternoon when Marsh arrived to turn himself in, along with his defense attorney's.

"Now that we have notice of what the prosecution is alleging, we will commence our investigation," said one of Marsh's defense attorneys Paul Nugent. "Our investigation will be thorough and rigorous."

Marsh has been indicted on four counts of sexual assault of a child, eight counts of sexual performance by a child and two counts of indecency with a child. Indictments the defense called "mere allegations" in a written statement.

"Stanley Marsh is presumed innocent and there should be no premature rush to judgement," added Nugent.

Both the defense and prosecution said it's too early to tell if the location of the trial will be moved from Potter County, and that's even if they go to trial.

"We'll obviously provide everything that we've seen to the defense council, let them have a look at it and respond to it if they want to," explained Lubbock County District Attorney and case prosecutor Matt Powell. "Then we'll sit down and discuss it with them and we'll see if we can get some type of agreement reached and if we can't, then we'll go to trial."

"We undertake this journey with the expectation that Stanley will be exonerated," said Nugent.

Neither attorney would comment on the case further and when asked how he's handling the developments, neither would Marsh.

After spending several hours waiting to be processed, Marsh did bond out again by about seven o'clock Thursday evening. Six indictments were handed down to Marsh, and only four of them were new, each with a bond amount set at $300,000.

If Marsh goes to trial and is convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines for each count.
