Controversy Surrounds Big Spring Landfill Expansion

Staff Report
NewsWest 9

BIG SPRING - The controversy in Big Spring continues over the landfill expansion.

City and County officials discussed the issue during a meeting Wednesday morning. They plan on holding a press conference at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon to talk about where they are with the discussions.

Interim City Manager Todd Darden tells NewsWest 9 that they are far from reaching a deal, but whatever they decide will benefit Howard County residents.

The controversy revolves around how much the county will have to pay for the landfill expansion.

County Judge Mark Barr told NewsWest 9 in an earlier interview that the county didn't budget for the one-point-six million dollars the city is asking from them.

NewsWest 9's Sylvia Gonzalez will have the latest on NewsWest 9 at 5 and 6.
