MIDLAND - One person is dead after a high speed crash on Saturday afternoon in Midland.
The rollover crash even caused the SUV to catch fire.
Good Samaritans rushed to help the victim who was reportedly trapped inside the SUV.
A witness tells NewsWest 9, a passerby with a fire extinguisher put out the flames before they spread.
This all happened around 3:15 p.m. on the service road of Loop 250 and Cynthia Drive.
Officials say 49-year-old Rocky Maxey was heading east on the service road at a high rate of speed when he tried passing a truck on the right side of the road.
Maxey's SUV hit a curb, overcorrected and rolled multiple times before coming to a stop in a field.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
We're told Maxey's family was also on the scene at the time of the crash.
