ODESSA - An NFL player returned to West Texas to remind students that their dreams really can come true.
Marcus Cannon is an offensive tackle for the New England Patriots.
But he didn't get there overnight.
He grew up in Odessa and played football at Odessa High School.
He went on to play for TCU and was later drafted by the Patriots but it hasn't been an easy road.
Just two years ago, he was undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
On Friday, Cannon spoke to students at Hood Junior High on making it to the big leagues.
"One thing that I try to portray to the kids is staying focused. They want to do things, they want to do right and they have goals but there's other things putting them away and that's my big thing is staying focused. If you stay focused, you can achieve whatever you want to achieve," Cannon said.
Cannon went on to say that his success is not only due to staying in school but also having respect for others.
