ODESSA - A tablet thief was captured in action by a surveillance camera. He stole two Kindle Fire tablets from the GameStop store. The crime happened at the store located off 42nd Street and Grandview Avenue.
Police describe their suspect as a white heavy set male with brown eyes and black shorts and his acts were all caught on tape.
It's a busy day for one GameStop shop. Many customers are asking questions and store clerks are busy assisting them. Later a guy walks into the store with a plan in mind. But what you'll see is the reason why police need your help in identifying him.
"It's kind of one of those chance things that happens. There's a tablet sitting on behind the counter, and he's over by the counter and sees it. There's actually two of them sitting there," Odessa Crime Stoppers Director, Susan Rogers, said.
The man in a gray shirt pretends to be interested in the items that are on the wall. He waits till the clerk is attending a customer, that's when he slips one of the tablets and walks way.
"We think there was someone else working in there with him. He hands it off to that person and I guess because he got away with that one, he goes and steals a second one," Rogers said.
All total, about $500 worth of merchandise that was stolen. Even though this crime may be a petty one, authorities say a crime is a crime.
"These crimes lead to bigger crimes. If they get away with this and their willing to go into a store and steal stuff like that, there's always a chance they'll start breaking into homes or breaking into your vehicles. It leads to other things," Rogers said.
