STANTON - Residents in Martin County are on alert. They've seen a string of burglaries there, with at least 10 victims just since Sunday.

Residents flooded NewsWest 9's Facebook page, outraged by the series of burglaries in their once quiet community.

"(They) stole her purse, her wallet, cards, social security card, clothes, jewelry, make-up. Everything," One woman, who asked not to be identified, said.

Her granddaughter was one of the victims in the string of coincidental burglaries happening in Stanton.

"She's working very hard to do all this, to better herself, going to college and working, and then for this person to just to break into her car and take whatever," she said.

She wasn't the only one hit, according to neighbors, more than 10 others have been targeted by the crooks since Sunday, including Mike Black, who own's B's Auto.

"They came underneath the fence last night (Monday), and the night before, they climbed over our barbed wire fence to get into the facility here," Black said.

The thieves went after the 18 inch wheels on one of Black's pickups, costing him thousands.

"It amounted to about $3,500 loss," he said. "And I got another pick-up, they came back last night and took the wheels off and took the calipers off it, but left the wheel."

Both victims said they are beefing up security.

"We've got a camera system, we're fixing to install it outside," the woman said.
"I'm going to install lighting, it's going to have a revamped security system," Black said.

They hope the culprits are caught soon.

"It's a shame we got people doing things like that, cause to me, there ain't anything lower than a thief," Black said.

NewsWest 9 reached out to the Stanton Police Department but they wouldn't comment. However, Martin County Sheriff John Woodward told NewsWest 9, his department is investigating the burglary at B's Auto.
