Rudy's Bar-B-Q celebrates Independence Day by giving back

Posted: Updated:

Texans across the state celebrated Texas Independence Day today, and one restaurant in Amarillo got its celebrations going early Saturday morning.

Rudy's Bar-B-Q sold its egg and brisket tacos Saturday morning for only 32 cents in honor of Texas Independence Day. Usually those tacos cost $1.70. Rudy's Bar-B-Q has been celebrating Texas' Independence for several years now on this day by giving customers a special deal, but on top of that, all 32 cents from each taco sold Saturday morning is also being donated to the local food bank as a way to give back to the community.

"I think it's good to give back to anybody but locally is ten times better than anything," said Chris Krancher, Rudy's General Manager. "We are doing for facebook likes and twitter and instagram followers an extra dollar to other local communities where Rudy's are located."

The funds raised Saturday at Rudy's will be divided among food bank partners in every community that has a Rudy's restaurant. Total, there are 16 food banks that will be receiving these donations, including the High Plains Food Bank in Amarillo.
