MIDLAND - A state lawmaker from Midland is pushing his statewide ban on texting and driving in Austin.
The bill is being sponsored by Representative Tom Craddick.
Families who lost loved ones to texting and driving crashes made an emotional plea on Tuesday to the House Transportation Committee.
Texas has already banned any use of mobile devices by drivers under age 18.
The cities of Austin, El Paso and San Antonio already have local ordinances banning it.
Governor Rick Perry vetoed a similar proposal last year, calling it a government "overreach."
The transportation committee is expected to vote on it sometime next month.
