Adoption Agency That Handled Russian Boy’s Adoption Now Under Investigation

Staff Report

We have new developments involving the death of a three year old toddler in Gardendale.

The agency in Fort Worth that handled Max Shatto's adoption is now being investigated by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

A department spokesman says they are looking at whether the Gladney Center for Adoption screened the Shatto family properly.

Gladney officials refused to comment because they are prohibited from confirming or denying any information about a family or an adoptee.

Shatto was adopted from Russia.

He died at Medical Center Hospital on January 21 after being found unresponsive by his mother.

Ector County Deputies confirm the boy had bruising but it was unclear if it was an accident or from abuse.

They are still waiting for autopsy results.

Russian authorities claim the boy died from neglect and abuse.
