Emergency vehicle response times hindered by blizzard

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Response times for Amarillo police and fire departments are slower than usual right now.

The Amarillo Fire Department says they encourage residents not to go out in this weather. Amarillo Police have a limited number of vehicles equipped with four wheel drive and several police vehicles have already had to be towed after getting stuck during assistance calls.

The less trucks they have tied up responding to stuck vehicles, the better their response time can be for other emergencies.

Emergency responders are telling us today's blizzard has caused a delay in how quickly they can respond to calls, but as roads are plowed this evening those response time should shorten.
