ODESSA – A 15-year-old student is in hot water after authorities found a handgun in the student's locker.
ECISD officials tell NewsWest 9 that at around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Nimitz Junior High received a Crimestoppers tip that a 15-year-old male might have brought a weapon to school.
The teacher who took the call then notified campus police who then notified school administrators.
Campus police later located an unloaded 9mm handgun in a backpack that was in the student's locker. No ammunition was found with the weapon.
The student who brought the gun to school will face criminal charges and district disciplinary action.
Authorities tell NewsWest 9 that police do not believe that students or staff were ever in any danger.
