Clifford, the Big Red Dog, celebrates 50th birthday

Posted: Updated:

The Amarillo Public Library wants to celebrate with parents and kids in honor of Clifford, the Big Red Dog's 50th birthday.

Sunday, at the Northwest Branch Library, families came out to hear a classic Clifford story, get involved in fun activities, and even had the chance to snap a picture with Clifford himself. The Clifford series includes more than 70 children's books and was designed to teach children life lessons through reading.

"The more kids read the better their going to do, the easier school is going to be for them, when they start school," said Public Relations Coordinator Stacy Yates. "And kids that start early thinking that reading is something fun to do just have a great life."

The libraries will also be hosting readings Tuesday, February 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Downtown library, Saturday, February 23 at 10:00 a.m. at the East Branch Library and again on Sunday, February 24 at 4:00 p.m. at the North Branch Library.
