ODESSA - Another weekend, another gun show here in the Basin. More people are coming to the shows, not only to protect themselves, but also to prove a point to the government.
The people NewsWest 9 spoke to said alot of women were at the show, most of them first time handgun owners, looking for protection.

There were also quite a few families. They said it's good for kids to learn to have respect for the weapon and what that weapon can do.

Of course the hot topic was President Obama's gun control plans.

Jo Walker, the manager at Ricky Jo's Trading Post, said the government doesn't need to add more restrictions, they need to enforce the laws we already have.

"I don't think our government is in touch with the people," she said. "I don't really know exactly what this administration is trying to do, I just know I'm against it. We are pro 2nd Amendment, we are pro gun and it's a right that is given to each and every one of us as American citizens and I think we should fight to keep them from taking it away from us."

Walker also said if someone wants to buy a gun, they need to educate themselves on how to use one and be mindful of the power the gun holds.

The 31st Annual Midessa Boat, RV, Sport and Gun Show will run until Sunday at

the Ector County Coliseum.
