An Odessa man scheduled to die next month for a double murder won't be walking the green mile just yet.
Newly appointed counsel has ordered a stay of execution for Michael "Spider" Gonzalez, which will delay his execution.
His lawyers have asked for extra time to do more research and claim that Gonzales was not competent during his original trial.
Gonzalez stabbed his elderly neighbors to death after a botched burglary in 1994.
The couple he murdered, Manuel and Merced Aguirre, reportedly took care of Gonzalez as a child.
