Blunt Force Trauma Killed Crosbyton Girl

Staff Report

We now have some answers as to how a West Texas toddler died.

The Crosbyton Police Chief says two-year-old Leah Aguirre died from blunt force trauma.

Her body was found in the basement of her caretaker's home two weeks ago.

Right now, the body is presumed to be the little girl, but they're waiting on a scientific process that will positively identify her.

The caretaker, 42-year-old Matilda Almaraz, is charged with capital murder.

Leah was living at the Almaraz home after the mother, at some point, turned Leah over to Almaraz.

Child Welfare officials let Almaraz keep the girl after an inspection and background check.
