City seeks 66 new conventions

Posted: Updated:

AMARILLO - The city of Amarillo is asking for help from the community to boost business by booking 66 new conventions in 2013.

The Amarillo Convention and Visitor Council announced the goal today. Conventions can mean anything from meetings for professional organizations and businesses, to sporting events... or even large family reunions.

Eric Miller with the CVC says Amarillo has a bigger capability for group gatherings than the city currently utilizes.

"We do have a lot of great facilities here that may be under-used. We have more than 6,000 hotel rooms and that's a large number for a town our size," Miller said. "We do have a great civic center with great facilities. Our hotels, some of them have great facilities that can be used."

The CVC is asking anyone in the community with an idea for an event or convention in Amarillo to contact them by email (sales@visitamarillotx.com) or phone (806-372-1497).
