Amarillo, Texas - Those who are unemployed in the panhandle will see their benefits end sooner than in the past.
Texas was notified by the US Department of Labor that our state's three month average unemployment rate fell below 7 percent, which is the required rate for tier three of federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation eligibility.
The total maximum weeks of unemployment insurance benefits now available to a Texan is 54 weeks... Down from 63.
In the past year, Texas employers have added over 278 thousand jobs, and the unemployment rate is the lowest it has been since December of 2008, that's according to Texas Workforce Commission.
Panhandle work force solutions tells us Amarillo has the third lowest unemployment rate in the entire state at 4.1 percent, only trailing Midland and Odessa.
