MIDLAND COUNTY - A manhunt for a man who attempted to run over a Martin County Sheriff's Office deputy last Friday has been called off.

Martin County Sheriff John Woodward tells NewsWest 9 they were looking for 25-year-old Eric Perez.

Around 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Perez was stopped on Highway 80 near the airport.

That's when Perez took off running and the search was on.

Authorities searched throughout the area along Highway 80 near the airport but Perez was never found.

Perez allegedly shot at Martin County Sheriff's Deputies last Friday and then tried to run them over.

Deputies were trying to serve a warrant on Friday in Martin County when Perez took off.

He tried to hit a sheriff's deputy with his car during his getaway. That's when gunfire was exchanged. Perez' car was later found on FM 1208.
