MIDLAND - West Texans opened their hearts and wallets on Friday morning in support of the victims and families of Thursday's tragic accident.

NewsWest 9 teamed up with our radio station partner Town Square Media for the "Hearts for Heroes" fundraiser.

On air personalities from B-93, KODM, KBAT, Lonestar 92 and NewsWest 9 were at Taco Villa on Midland Drive and Andrews Highway taking donations.

Money was pouring in.

Everyone who showed up had their own reason for sharing.

"I do work for the hospital and I was on call, yesterday (Thursday), in my unit.  There was not much else I could do but stay where I was. I have family members that are across seas and it's important for me to show my support," Midlander, Kris Wanner, said.

Friday's fundraiser collected over $100,000.

If you didn't get a chance to make it out on Friday morning, you can still lend a hand.

An account has been set up at Complex Community Federal Credit Union.

You can donate at any branch location.

Townsquare media will also be taking donations on Saturday at Wal-Mart on North Loop 250 starting at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
