PECOS - A death bed confession in Pecos exonerates a man who many suspected of committing a grisly murder.

Last month, a man told authorities he had mutilated 37-year-old Dorothy Johnson when he was a teenager.

While officers were investigating the story, the man died at an Odessa hospital.

But everything he confessed to matched the scene of the crime.

The confession also lifted a dark cloud that had been hanging over the victim's son who many in town believed had killed his mother.

We're told because the man was so young at the time of the murder and even though he has died; his name will not be released.
