WEST ODESSA - The Texas Rangers are investigating after a deadly officer involved shooting on Wednesday night.

Officials tell NewsWest 9 that around 7:15 p.m. a call came in that a man was waving a silver gun around at his home in the 4000 block of Uranus.

When Sheriff Mark Donaldson and deputy Johnny Valderaz arrived, they went around to the back of the home.

That's where they confronted 66-year-old Marvin Donald Wilkerson, who had the gun in his waistband.

Wilkerson then pulled out his gun, and according to officials, Valderaz fired at least one shot.

Wilkerson was then transported to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa where he was pronounced dead.

The Texas Rangers will be investigating the incident as regular procedure when an officer involved shooting occurs.

According to Gary Duesler with the Ector County Sheriff's Office, Valderaz has not been placed on administrative leave and will be back to work on Monday for office duty.
