LEA COUNTY - A Hobbs man is dead following a two vehicle crash in Lea County. It happened around 8 Monday night on Bender Boulevard, west of West County Road.

32-year-old Raymond Boyd died in the crash. According to authorities, a commercial motor vehicle pulling a tanker trailer was traveling westbound on Bend Boulevard. The commercial motor vehicle was driven by 26-year-old Daniel Perkins of Hobbs.

Boyd was traveling westbound on a motorcycle. As both vehicles traveled westbound, the commercial motor vehicle began to slow down to make a left turn into a gas station.  While the commercial motor vehicle was making the left turn, Boyd attempted to pass the commercial motor vehicle on the left side.

Boyd was unable to pass the vehicle safely, crashing into the driver's side of the commercial motor vehicle. Boyd was transported to Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities say driver inattention and excessive speed were contributing factors in the crash. Alcohol was not a contributing factor and seatbelts were not a factor in this crash.
