MIDLAND - If you're morning or afternoon commute involves going through a school zone in Midland, make sure you slow down and put the cell phone down.
Midland Police will be out in full force this week looking for school zone violators.
It's become a growing problem with more drivers filling up the streets.
Drivers are ignoring school zone signs and it's putting children in danger.
So now, officers are stepping up their patrol in the school zones to remind drivers to obey the signs.
"Traffic volume in the City of Midland has increased over 33 percent in the last few years and we just have more people, more vehicles. Leave a little early for work and don't be in such a hurry and out streets will be a lot safer," Lieutenant Ray Leible with the Midland Police Department, said.
Midland Police told NewsWest 9, they suggest drivers slow down, get off the cell phone and pay attention.
