MIDLAND - It's a month better known for breast cancer awareness but October is also domestic violence awareness and often times that gets looked over.
However, Safe Place of the Permian Basin is working to make sure that doesn't happen this year.
On Thursday, they hosted a victim's awareness workshop to educate and help victims break the cycle of violence.
One former victim NewsWest 9 spoke to said a lot of the time people don't realize they're in an unhealthy relationship.
"There are so many people involved in abusive relationships and a lot think it's normal. They don't know that it's not ok, that it does beat you," the victim said.
Safe Place serves 15 counties including Andrews, Ector, Midland and Howard.
