ODESSA - Odessa will soon begin drilling a $1 million well near Fort Stockton to test the water.
On Tuesday night, the Odessa City Council approved the drilling.
City officials have been looking into partnering with Fort Stockton to get water from the Capitan Reef Aquifer.
That water source is about nine miles south of Fort Stockton.
Studies show it has enough water to not only be used in Odessa but also to provide Fort Stockton itself with a back-up water supply.
If the water is determined to be more pure than Ward County's water, Odessa could move forward with an agreement with Fort Stockton.
