U.S. Xpress announced today the company has launched a new lease-purchase program that will be one of the first in the country to offer truck drivers a 90-day, risk-free trial as an independent truck driver for the second-largest, privately-held trucking company in the country. With this new program, truck drivers can easily start their own business as an independent truck contractor and receive a wide range of support and business resources from U.S. Xpress to help them own their truck within three years or less.
“Every year, carriers throughout the country face challenges with recruiting enough people to meet the workforce needs of our industry. This new lease-purchase program is part of our ongoing commitment to support truck drivers by providing them with an easy, risk-free opportunity to start their own business as an independent truck driver,” said Eric Fuller, Chief Operating Officer for U.S. Xpress.
In addition to providing truck drivers with bumper-to-bumper coverage during the 90-day, no-risk trial period, U.S. Xpress does not require a credit check or a down payment to qualify for the program, which makes it easier for drivers to start their own business as an independent truck driver. After 90 days, truck drivers have the ability to terminate the lease-purchase agreement without any financial liabilities or decide to grow their business through U.S. Xpress and its commitment to providing independent truck drivers with consistent miles and a wide range of programs to help reduce their expenses.
Once enrolled in the program, drivers can choose to drive a 2009 International ProStar with low monthly payment plans and a 3-year/300,000 mile extended warranty. U.S. Xpress also provides base plates, permits and inspections, discounts on fuel and maintenance, fuel surcharge paid on all dispatched miles (loaded and empty) and access to other resources that can help independent truck drivers manage their business.
In addition, U.S. Xpress works closely with its independent truck drivers to provide them with 98% no-touch and 60-70% drop and hook freight shipments, which means they have fewer hassles at the loading dock and can spend more time on the road making money. By providing contractor-friendly freight shipments, truck drivers can also expect to own their truck within three years or less.
Fuller continued, “Nearly 70 percent of the total freight shipped in our country is delivered by truck drivers, and we are committed to supporting our independent truck drivers by providing them with consistent miles, great pay, more buying power and the resources they need so they can make more money and own their own truck ”
In order to qualify for the lease-purchase program, truck drivers must be at least 21 years old, have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License, an acceptable safety performance history, and a minimum of six months of verifiable over-the-road (OTR) truck driving experience within the last 24 months.
