Frequent Rains Causing Flooded Roadways, School Closures/Delays in the Basin

The welcoming rain in the Basin is causing some travel and school closures/delays this morning.

Closures:

  • Midland ISD
  • Village School - Midland
  • Animal Krackers Daycare
  • Kid Town
  • Crestview Early Childhood Center Preschool and K classes
  • Midland Christian
  • Midland Classical Upper Schools and Grammar
  • Richard Milburn Academy - Midland
  • Bynum School - Midland
  • Peppermint Plantation Daycare - Midland
  • St. Luke's Childhood Development - Midland

Delays:

  • Kelview Preschool, Daycare and Christian school will start at 9:30 a.m.
  • St. Ann's School will start at 9:30 a.m.
  • St. Mary's will start at 10 a.m.
  • Midland College will start at 10 a.m.
  • Midland Montessori is on a two hour delay
  • City of Midland - 10 a.m. start

Daycare's:

  • Mrs. Irene Childcare will begin at 10 a.m.
  • First Baptist Child Development Center - two hour delay

Numerous roadways are also being reported as flooded:

Persephone Dakopolos with the City of Midland is reporting the following roads as experiencing heavy flooding:

  • Scharbauer and Main Street
  • Big Spring and Missouri underpass
  • Andrews Hwy and Loop 250 overpass
  • "A" Street and Scharbauer

The City of Midland is urging residents to stay home until high waters subside. If you must drive, please DO NOT driving into standing water as emergency crews are being inundated with water rescues.

Odessa city officials are asking drivers to avoid flood prone streets such as Muskingum, Dixie, Tom Green, SE Loop 338 and JBS Parkway.

Parents dropping students off at Nimitz are encouraged to go slow and find alternate routes if possible as there is a flooded vehicle at JBS Parkway and Maple. OFR currently is responding to seven water rescues and is overwhelmed with calls. Drivers need to use extreme caution.

EZ Rider Information:

Due to weather conditions, they are unable to go through certain areas due to it being flooded. They are trying to accommodate the ones they are able to get to but due to high waters there is a delay in services.
