PECOS COUNTY - Gas prices are on the rise and the Fort Stockton Sheriff's Department is especially feeling the pinch.

Now they've been given $45,000 to fill up at the pump.

Sheriff Cliff Harris says they are transporting more prisoners than in the past.

In one case, the department will need to travel to California to pick up an inmate and then drive him back.

Once his sentence is done in California, they will have to make a third trip to pick him up again.

County Commissioners approved the fuel request.
