ODESSA - It's been in the works for a while now. Odessa had planned on pumping water out of Ward County and into Odessa homes.

Now it looks like Fort Stockton may be a better option.

Fort Stockton claims their water has a better quality than Ward County's.

On Thursday, the Odessa Development Corporation decided to go forward with testing the water to see if that's true.

"Initially we were exploring the Ward County option for us, but it looks like the water quality of the Capitan Reef in the Fort Stockton area is actually a better choice as far as quality of water. If that is the case, then the treatment of this water will be less expensive than it would be to treat the water out of Ward County, " Odessa City Manager, Richard Morton, said.

An inter-local agreement between the two cities will now have to be approved by the Odessa City Council and the Middle Pecos Groundwater District.

If that goes through, a $1 million well will be built to move the water from Fort Stockton to Odessa.
