HOBBS, N.M. - A booming oil industry, coupled with the housing crisis, are the culprits as the why there is a teacher shortage in Hobbs.
The district says 18 positions, eight teaching, need to be filled immediately.
A lot of teachers quit to go work in the oil industry which pays more while other teachers can't find an affordable place to live.
The Superintendent says they are working quickly to fill positions.
Some of the teachers needed included a gifted and talented teacher, algebra and social studies.
