Staff Report

CULBERSON COUNTY - The Chief Deputy in Culberson County is getting a taste of the other side of the law after he falsified an accident to get a woman insurance money.

Chief Deputy Alberto Urias is charged with tampering with governmental records and insurance fraud.

Back in August, the Texas Rangers say Urias responded to an accident and lied about the cause on his accident report.

The woman in the accident, Vanessa Ornelas, used the report to get more than $1,500 from Farmers Insurance.

NewsWest 9 tried to contact the Culberson County Sheriff to see if Urias is on paid leave.

None of our calls were returned.
