BIG SPRING - A new tax rate for Big Spring will end up costing the city money out of their pockets.

The City Council settled on an effective tax rate that will cost the city in the end.

Last year, property values weren't calculated correctly which means the rate is two cents lower than it should be.

The city will have to absorb that cost by dipping into their general fund.

Time ran out to adopt a tax rate and there was no time to fix the mistake.
