MIDLAND - This may surprise you. Despite the boom of people moving to Midland, there's been a sharp decline in the crime rate.

Police Chief Price Robinson credits the hard work of his officers for it.

Overall crime is down six percent.

Here's a breakdown of those numbers from January to July.

Rape is down 10 percent, robbery is down 12 percent and burglary dropped by 29 percent.

They only increase, auto theft is up 21 percent, but in half of those vehicles, the keys were left inside.

Officers are urging you to lock your doors, hide anything in your car and don't leave your keys in your car.
