MIDLAND - Good news for central Midland. The ward street bridge is now open to traffic just in time for school on Monday.
The grand reopening ceremony for the bridge was held on Friday morning with people taking a walk across.
The Ward Street Bridge runs across Jal Draw and was originally built in 1980 but had to be replaced over the summer due to the wear and tear of 32 years.
It also serves as a primary route for Goddard Junior High and Emerson Elementary.
"On Monday morning, there's going to be kids on bicycles and parents taking their kids to school and they'll be using this bridge. So we really appreciate everyone who worked so hard to make that happen," Midland Mayor, Wes Perry, said.
It took a little more than three months to build.
We're told they finished a week early and under budget.
