ODESSA - As Odessa students head back to school on Monday, there will be fewer teachers in the classroom.
Right now, there are 15 teacher openings throughout the district. That's on top of 14 openings for bus drivers and 11 openings for custodial workers.
Mike Adkins, spokesman for the school district, says it's due to two factors.
The district can't compete with the oil field wages and the housing shortage has kept them from recruiting teachers to the area.
We're told subs will temporarily fill those positions or teachers will cover for each other.
