If you plan on throwing back a few cold ones on Labor Day weekend, make sure you have a sober driver to get behind the wheel.
TXDOT has launched a new campaign that will have the streets crawling with officers looking for drunk drivers.
From now until the end of Labor Day weekend, law enforcement has been stepped up and officers will be working overtime.
"Texas leads the nation in alcohol related crashes and even though the numbers are going down, the work is not done. We want to make roads safer and get drunks off the road," Gene Powell, Public Information Officer with TXDOT in Odessa, said.
Powell says when you figure in lawyer's fees, bail, court fines and other fees, a DWI can actually end up costing you up to $17,000 in the end.
