MIDLAND- A Midland father accused of murdering his own son was arraigned on Wednesday. 19-year-old Izsel Thomas was arrested on Tuesday for killing eight month old Alston Thomas.
On June Fourth, a 911 call was placed from the father's home.
"Paramedics responded to a call at Ranchland Apartments in reference to a child not being responsive," Lt. B.J. Land with the Midland Police Department, said.
According to the arrest affidavit, Izsel Thomas told authorities that he was bathing his son in the bathtub when he briefly stepped out of the room. He said when he returned, he found the boy unresponsive. The baby's uncle and another friend came to the apartment, unit 807. They were the ones who contacted medics.
The boy was rushed to the emergency room at Midland Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body was then sent off for examination.
"The final autopsy result revealed that the child did not drown. The child died from blunt force trauma to the head," Land said.
Examiners found that the trauma was caused by some sort of a curved object. It was inconsistent with story given by the father.
Izsel Thomas initially reported he was the only one alone with his son during his death.
He is currently being held in the Midland County Detention Center on a $1 million bond.
"At this point, the investigation is still ongoing. The case will be presented to the district attorney's office and we'll go from there," Land said.
