PERMIAN BASIN - There are now at least six confirmed cases of the West Nile Virus here in the Basin.
Two cases has been confirmed by the Ector County Health Department and now four other people are being treated at Medical Center Hospital all from Andrews County.
These are the first reported cases of the virus in our area this year.
Here are some symptoms to look out for: fever, headache, body aches, a skin rash and possibly swollen lymph glands.
The illness can be as short as a few days but some have reported being sick up to several weeks.
People 50 and over and those with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of getting sick.
So far, at least 18 deaths from West Nile have been reported in Texas this year, 10 in Dallas County.
