HOBBS, N.M. - A despicable new scam is targeting innocent grandmothers in Hobbs.

Here's how it works.

A boy or girl will call an older woman claiming to be their grandchild.

What's unique is that they somehow figure out the woman's grandchild's name and then claim to be them.

They explain they're stuck in Mexico and need $2,000 mailed to them.

They also have someone pose as an American Embassy worker.

Several people have reported the scam.
