MONAHANS - We have an update on a local story that's making national headlines.
The Monahans Best Western Employee who's accused of humiliating a disabled veteran is no longer working at the hotel.
Last week, Staff Sergeant Chad Staples says he called down to the front desk asking for help getting downstairs in his wheelchair because the elevator was out.
But instead of help, Staples says he was laughed at and then hung up on.
The veteran tells NewsWest 9, he was forced to crawl down three flights of stairs.
Best Western officials sent NewsWest 9 a statement on Sunday afternoon that says "The Best Western Monahans has concluded its review of the matter and the individual involved is no longer employed by the property."
The statement went on to say, "As a dedicated member of the Monahans community, we remain committed to providing our guests with only the highest levels of customer service."
The hotel had previously sent out an apology and refunded staples for his stay.
