NewsWest 9

An early morning car accident claims the life of an Odessa firefighter.

DPS officials say 32-year-old Christopher Ryan Clay was killed in a rollover crash just after 2:20 a.m. Saturday morning near Penwell.

Clay was heading westbound on Interstate 20 when for some reason he left the road, overcorrected, went into a side-skid and then rolled his dodge pickup several times.

We're told he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Clay was pronounced dead at the scene.

No one else was injured in this crash.

Firefighters from Odessa and all over the Basin are mourning the loss of Clay.

On Sunday, the Northeast Midland County Volunteer Fire Department will be collecting money for the family at the North side Wal-Mart in Midland, located on Loop 250.

If you would like to stop by and donate, firefighters will be out there from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
