MIDLAND - Board members with the Midland ISD have long discussed making improvements to their schools.

Two weeks ago, the price tag to do that just for elementary schools jumped to almost $162 million.

After Thursday night's special board meeting, it looks like they'll actually need more than half a billion dollars to make all of the improvements they'd like.

In addition to improvements to elementary schools, board members heard options for converting all junior high and freshman schools into six middle schools.

Included in the package are synthetic turf football fields and competition gyms.

Along with that would come renovations to Lee High School, building a new Midland High plus creating a third high school.

The total price tag for everything is a heart-stopping $663 million dollars.

The school board will discuss a school bond election at their next meeting.
