ECTOR COUNTY - An inmate is back in custody after attempting to escape from officers at Medical Center Hospital.
The incident happened on Thursday afternoon just after 1 p.m.
According to the Ector County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Michael Barnes was being loaded into a jail van when he slipped out of his cuffs and took off running towards the parking garage.
The officer managed to catch up with Barnes.
The officer then pulled his taser on Barnes and a struggle began.
During the struggle, Barnes took the taser away from the officer and pointed the taser at the officer.
Barnes then ran across the parking garage and saw a woman parking her vehicle on Washington Street.
Barnes ran toward the woman and tried to pull her from her vehicle.
A "Good Samaritan" saw that the officer was chasing Barnes and saw that Barnes was trying to pull her from her vehicle.
The citizen managed to pull Barnes from the vehicle and assisted officers in detaining Barnes.
Barnes has been charged with escape, which is a felony.
The investigation is ongoing and other charges will be filed.
Barnes was originally at the Ector County Detention Center for possession of a controlled substance, a felony probation violation warrant in Midland County and a warrant for driving while license was invalid.
