Lovington Man Accused of Shooting Man, Leading Police on Chase

LOVTINGON, N.M. - A Lovington man is accused of shooting another guy in the chest then leading police on a chase.

Authorities say 24-year-old Leo Lopez shot Cecil Fuentes in the chest.

After that, he left Lovington and headed toward Hobbs.

He was pulled over but when the officer asked to see his hands, he took off.

We're told Lopez ended up back in Lovington and crashed.

Lopez is an ex-con.

He's charged with attempted murder, felon in possession of firearm and tampering with evidence.

Fuentes is in satisfactory condition at a Lubbock hospital.

Lopez is being held without bond.
