Midland, TX – Thursday, July 26, 2012 – Are you interested in giving back to your community? How about joining the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT)! The American Red Cross is currently recruiting Red Cross team members to help increase the amount of volunteers ready to respond to disaster at a moment's notice.
With a decline of volunteers and the increase in national disasters along with wildfire season, the Red Cross exceedingly needs additional volunteer support. The Red Cross is looking for volunteers to join the Disaster Action Team (DAT) and stand ready to respond to local disaster incidents.
Those interested in being part of the Red Cross team must fill out a volunteer application, pass a back ground check and take the free training classes offered by the local chapter. See dates and times below of the upcoming classes:
DAT Classes – All training will be held at the Red Cross office in Midland, TX
1. Disaster Services Overview – July 27, 9-11 am; July 28, 3-5 pm; September 4, 1-3pm; September 5, 9-11 am; September 8, 9-11am
2. Client Casework – August 8, 6-9 pm; August 10, 9am – Noon; August 11, 2-5 pm; September 11, 1-4 pm; September 12, 9am – Noon; September 9am – Noon
3. Disaster Assessment – August 15, 6-9pm; August 17,9am – Noon; August 18; 2-5 pm; September 18, 1-4 pm; September 19, 9am – Noon; September 22, 9am – Noon
The Disaster Action Team (DAT) is made up of individuals who are trained to respond to disasters whenever they occur. Volunteers provide assistance to families in an emergency and set up canteen for emergency responders. Being a member of DAT is a great way to develop leadership and emergency response skills while supporting the community in important ways.
