ALPINE - The Alpine City Council held a special meeting on Tuesday night all to discuss their city attorney, Rod Ponton, again.

Last week, the Council decided not to take action against Ponton for being late filing campaign reports for the judge's seat he's in a runoff election for.

The State Ethics Commission slapped him with fines for it.

On Tuesday night, the Council discussed hiring an attorney to investigate Ponton's possible criminal background.

Those findings will be discussed at their next meeting in August.

In addition, the City Council wants an attorney to work with them to develop clearer policies on ethics, criminal backgrounds and anything that could tarnish the city's reputation as well as procedures for terminating employees.

Ponton is in the runoff for District Attorney.

The election is Tuesday.
