Authorities Searching for Inmate Who Escaped from the Jal City Jail

JAL, N.M. - Authorities need your help locating an inmate who escaped from the Jal City Jail on Tuesday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m. it was discovered that a subject had escaped the Jal City Jail.

19-year-old Matthew Lopez was being held for Probation Violation, Revocation of Bond, and Criminal Damage to Property.

It was discovered that Lopez was able to remove a portion of the metal partition from the jail cell, climbed on top of the jail between the metal partitions and the tile ceiling and was able to squeeze to a window located in the facility. Lopez then opened the window where he was able to escape. 

Matthew Lopez is described as a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes, 5'6", weighs approximately 120 pounds. Was wearing a gray, blue, and purple striped T-Shirt, Dark denim Shorts and a blue and orange flat rimmed cap.

He has a tattoo on the back of his left arm, "DON'T" and another tattoo on the back of his right arm, "PLAY".
